When you are at a sportfishing shop you will notice that their ar many different jig head body styles out there and each has its purpose. If you have a round ball design this is best for vertical jigging and will nail some suspended fish or working bottom rock contours. It does hang up easy which is a draw back but it sinks quickly and some of the round ball jigs have an attached wire ar with a blade that will resemble a bait fish as it falls and being worked on weedlines or shallow cover.

If you ar fishing with a stand up jig which is pyramid wrought when its on the bottom of the water the hook is always standing upright. This makes this gigue snag free and setting the hook can be easier than some of the other designs out there. If you can tag a curlytail grub or plastic lure it will appear to be a bait fish feeding on the bottom and can be very effective. This style is recommended for thin weed growth, light brush or scattered rocks and gravel seem to work the best.

Another type of gigue is the football head jig which has a pointed nose that allows it to be worked through very thick cover with minimal hangups. The bottom is flat and the hook remains in an upright position with even the slowest retrieve. Put a porc on this for an awesome compounding because other designs cause the pork to fall over on its side but non this one.

A keel head jig kind of looks like a small oval that has been flattened. It retrieves in a vertical position and most of the time it has a plastic trailer and fished on its edge. This lure is great for any area where there is current especially rivers. It can be worked through rock cover with hardly ever acquiring a snag.

The last design of gigue out there is a slider head jig that has a slightly pointed head that is oval in shape. It is brought in horizontal position and seems to glide through the water in an almost swimming manner. It is great when sportfishing suspended bass along a shoreline on bluffs and rock structures.
